Rooted Dance Film

Rooted is a dance film that explores humanity's connection to nature, focusing on the consequences of overconsumption in urban environments and the wasteful practices of the fashion industry. Inspired by mycorrhizal networks and biomorphism, the film portrays the dual roles humans play in both damaging and healing ecosystems. Through movement and sustainable materiality, the dancers represent the fragile balance of ecological systems, reflecting the unseen impact of micro trends and the environmental cost of overproduction and waste.

To gain deeper insights into the creative process behind Rooted and the motivations of those involved, I documented interviews with the fashion students and choreographer I collaborated with. These conversations were incredibly insightful, revealing the personal connections and inspirations that shaped their contributions to the film. Their voices felt too significant to keep behind the scenes, I wanted to share them with my audience in a meaningful way

The Rooted Playbill is a photographic booklet that explores the choreographic process and the film’s environmental message, highlights it’s dedication to sustainability in costume and set design, and features cast and crew interviews that share their creative journey and the collaborative process behind the film. By inviting readers into these personal narratives, the catalog aims to encourage conversations about performance art’s potential to address ecological issues and inspire action.
